ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s spouse Bushra Bibi personal physician Dr Asim Yousuf said that he performed the medical checkup but there was no confirmation of any poisonous substance being given to the former first lady.

“At this time, there is no evidence of Bushra Bibi being poisoned. “If there was anything two months ago he did not see it but her health is better now. We are not conducting any medical test to ascertain the administration of any poisonous substance to Bushra Bibi,” Dr Yousuf told the media.

The physician said that Bushra Bibi’s health deteriorated after taking a meal two months ago. However, she started consuming less food due to health issues, he added.

Dr. Yousuf mentioned that he was not aware of the specifics of her health issues from two months ago and recommended medical tests considering her age, especially to address stomach-related concerns. He also mentioned plans to meet Imran Khan on Saturday and confirmed that Khan’s health was doing well now, although his appetite had not fully recovered after a minor illness.

Earlier on Tuesday, during a court hearing regarding the £190 million settlement case, Imran Khan had alleged that his wife was poisoned while detained at Bani Gala sub-jail, citing marks on her skin and tongue. He urged for an inquiry and comprehensive medical examination of Bushra Bibi.

Bushra Bibi herself had claimed that she was informed by someone in jail about the alleged poisoning, citing symptoms of chest and stomach pain and swollen eyes. She alleged that “three drops of toilet cleaner” were mixed in her food, causing bitterness in taste. However, she declined to name the individual who informed her about the incident.

“My eyes swell up, I feel pain in my chest and stomach,” the former first lady had claimed.
