ISLAMABAD: Pervez Khattak, the former provincial president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, revealed on Saturday that he had repeatedly urged the party’s chairman to adopt “positive thinking,” but his advice went unheeded.

Khattak made these remarks during an interaction with media personnel at his residence in Manki Sharif, where he received numerous well-wishers exchanging greetings for Eid ul Adha.

Undeterred by the show-cause notice issued against him, the former defence minister expressed that he is a politician, not a government servant, implying that he values his independence. Khattak further emphasized that it is part of his professional duty to maintain contact with political workers and supporters to garner their support. He also highlighted the unique traditions of their province, where political differences do not escalate into rivalries.

Pervez Khattak Yet to Respond PTI Show-Cause Notice

Regarding the show-cause notice, which was issued on June 22 by PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan, Khattak stated that he had not yet responded to the notice, which sought an explanation for allegedly inciting members to leave the party. The notice outlined a seven-day deadline for Khattak to present his position on the matter, warning of further action if an unsatisfactory reply was received or if no response was provided, in accordance with party policies and rules.

Furthermore, Khattak discussed the May 9 attacks, describing them as a well-conceived conspiracy aimed at undermining the army and desecrating the memory of the martyrs. He criticized the former prime minister for not consulting with the party’s leadership and only confiding in a select few. Khattak expressed his rejection of what he referred to as “revolutionary thinking” and reaffirmed his belief in non-violence and peace. He stressed that he does not engage in politics that disrespect national institutions.

In terms of his future plans, Khattak mentioned ongoing consultations with former lawmakers from across the province to devise a strategy for navigating the country out of its current crises. He emphasized that revolutionary politics are not viable for the country and underscored the importance of maintaining stability and avoiding disrespect towards national institutions.
