Petroleum group imports show negative growth on MoM basis

ISLAMABAD: Petroleum group imports witnessed a negative growth of 16.20 percent on a month-on-month basis (MoM) in September 2022 as it remained $1.564 billion compared to $1.866 billion in August 2022, says the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

The data showed that the country’s textile group exports witnessed a negative growth of 3.10 percent on a MoM basis and remained $1.527 billion in September 2022 compared to $1.706 billion in August 2022.

On a year-on-year (YoY) basis, petroleum group imports witnessed a growth of 15.00 percent when compared to $636 million in September 2021.

Petroleum products witnessed 22.00 percent negative growth on a MoM basis as it remained $730 million compared to $931 million in August 2022. On a YoY basis, petroleum products imports witnessed a growth of 15.00 percent when compared to $636 million in September 2021.

Petroleum crude imports witnessed a negative growth of 5.0 percent on MoM as it remained $451 million compared to $473 million in August 2022. On a YoY basis, petroleum crude imports witnessed a growth of 3.0 percent when compared to $436 million in September 2021.

Natural Gas, Liquified imports witnessed a negative growth of 15 percent on MoM as it remained $340 million compared to $399 million in August 2022. On YoY basis, Natural Gas, Liquified imports witnessed a negative growth of 9.0 percent when compared to $373 million in September 2021.

Agricultural and other chemicals group imports witnessed 4.0 percent growth on a MoM basis and a negative growth 23 percent on a YoY basis. The transport group witnessed 57.10 percent negative growth on a MoM basis and 11.4 percent negative growth on a YoY basis.

Total imports of the country during imports in September 2022 were $5.347 billion as compared to $6.071 billion in August 2022 showing a decrease of 11.9 percent and by 18.5 percent as compared to $6.563 billion in September 2021.

Main commodities of imports during September 2022 were petroleum products ($730 million), petroleum crude ($451 million), food ($940 million), machinery ($473 million), transport ($187 million), textile ($294 million), agriculture and other chemicals ($933 million) and metal ($417 million).

The country’s textile group exports witnessed a negative growth of 3.10 percent on MoM basis and remained $1.527 billion in September 2022 compared to $1.575 billion in August 2022. On a YoY basis, textile groups’ exports witnessed a growth of 2.70 percent when compared to $1.487 billion in September 2021.

Knitwear exports registered a negative growth of 3.0 percent in August 2022 on MoM and a growth of 12.5% YoY basis.

Readymade garments exports registered 16.10 percent negative growth in August on a MoM basis and remained $277 million compared to $330 million in August 2022, while on a YoY basis it registered 0.3% percent growth when compared to $276 million in September 2021.

The country’s total exports in July 2022 were $2.446 billion as compared to $2.482 billion in August 2022 showing a decrease of 1.50 percent while as compared to September showed an increase of 1.50% at $2.409 billion in September 2021. Main commodities of exports during September 2022 were knitwear ($436 million), readymade garments ($277 million), chemicals and pharma ($117 million).
