KARACHI: In a significant development, the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has reported that its flight schedule is gradually returning to normalcy after the restoration of fuel supply from Pakistan State Oil (PSO).

A spokesperson for the national flag carrier made this announcement, emphasizing the steps taken to overcome the recent disruptions in operations.

According to the PIA spokesperson, the airline is successfully operating 48 flights on the current day, Friday. This includes 32 international and 16 domestic flights, signifying a substantial improvement in service compared to the recent disruption.

The spokesperson also highlighted that PIA has been diligently making payments to PSO, with Rs500 million already disbursed, underscoring the commitment to addressing outstanding financial obligations.

In a strategic move, PIA is focusing on acquiring fuel for routes that are considered profitable. These routes encompass destinations such as Saudi Arabia, Canada, China, Kuala Lumpur, and several others. This decision aims to ensure the efficient continuation of services on these vital international routes.

This positive development comes after PIA had to suspend a total of 24 flights earlier in the week due to fuel supply issues, impacting 16 international and 8 domestic flights. The disruption was caused by a temporary halt in fuel supply from PSO.

Notably, PSO had set a condition of a daily payment of Rs100 million for the resumption of fuel supply to PIA. In line with this requirement, the PIA spokesperson confirmed that the airline is complying by making daily payments to PSO. The resumption of fuel supply is essential for the smooth operation of PIA’s flights.

It is expected that, with the return of regular fuel supply and payments being made in accordance with the stipulated conditions, PIA will continue its efforts to offer reliable and efficient air travel services to both domestic and international passengers.
