PM, Cabinet Members Forego Salaries For Austerity Drive

ISLAMABAD: During a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he and his federal cabinet members decided to voluntarily forgo their salaries and perks as part of the government’s austerity measures.

The decision was reached as they discussed various agenda items, including a briefing on the Staff Level Agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the establishment of the PIA Holding Company.

Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb briefed the cabinet on the IMF agreement, highlighting its potential to improve the national economy and bolster investor confidence.

Additionally, the cabinet approved the formation of the PIA Holding Company, marking progress in the privatization of PIA. The cabinet also reiterated its commitment to combating terrorism, paying tribute and offering Fateha for the victims of a recent terrorist attack in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, on March 16.
