PM, COAS Discuss National Security, Regional Stability

RAWALPINDI:  Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir have discussed matters of national security, regional stability and military preparedness, said a military statement on Friday.

Army’s media wing ISPR in a statement said that the meeting took place during the visit of Prime Minister and cabinet members at the General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi.

The PM was presented guard of honor upon his arrival at the army headquarters. He also laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada, to pay tribute to the martyrs.

“They were briefed on the current security environment, threat spectrum, response to the security threats and ongoing counter terrorism operations,” said ISPR.

PM and cabinet members praised the professionalism, operational readiness, and sacrifices of Pakistan Army in war against terrorism and lauded the dedication of the Pakistan Army in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and ensuring peace and stability.

According to the statement the PM assured that the government will provide all the resources needed to ensuring operational readiness of the Armed Forces. He added that Pakistan is destined to rise and the role of the Armed Forces in ensuring peaceful rise of Pakistan cannot be over-emphasized.

COAS thanked the PM for the visit and expressing confidence in the Army. COAS said that Pakistan Army will continue to measure up to the nation’s expectations and will resolutely support the government in addressing the security challenges facing Pakistan.

“The visit concluded with civilian and military leadership reiterating their commitment to upholding national interests and working together for a prosperous and secure Pakistan,” said the ISPR.
