PM Reiterates Commitment With Uzbekistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated that Pakistan was committed to working with Tashkent to speed up and complete all bilateral trade and connectivity projects, PM’s office said in a statement on Wednesday.

The PM, in a meeting with Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov has reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to provide access to Uzbekistan to Pakistani Ports, it added. The PM also emphasized the significance of Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan Railway Project and Islamabad’s commitment to its early completion.

They discussed enhanced cooperation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan in the fields of trade and economy, defense, security, connectivity and people-to-people contacts. The significance of peace and development in Afghanistan for regional connectivity was also discussed during the meeting.

Congratulating Shehbaz Sharif on his re-election, the Uzbek Minister for Foreign Affairs also conveyed the invitation of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for PM Shehbaz to undertake an official trip to Uzbekistan at his earliest convenience.

The PM expressed gratitude to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and said that he was looking forward to meeting him soon.
