PESHAWAR: In a heartening display of community engagement and proactive health initiatives, Peshawar witnessed a successful five-day polio vaccination drive coinciding with the joyous Eid celebrations.
Over this period, a total of 1446 children received vital polio vaccinations, with 435 youngsters benefiting from the program at Peshawar Zoo and 1011 at Bagh-e-Naran.
The festive atmosphere of Eid attracted a large number of families to these parks, providing a unique opportunity for polio teams to connect with children and administer vaccinations.
These special vaccination stalls went beyond just inoculations, offering a comprehensive package of immunization services, awareness campaigns on the importance of vaccination, and engaging activities for families.
Spearheaded by the Provincial Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the initiative aimed to ensure that no child missed out on crucial polio immunization, with special attention given to those who may have been overlooked in recent campaigns or were set to travel out of the city.
The drive also served as a platform to educate the public about the critical importance of polio immunization, with offers extended to parents, students, and adults willing to actively participate in eradicating polio.
Officials from the district administration, EOC, and partner organizations visited these vaccination stalls, emphasizing the significance of polio vaccination to the visitors and underlining the collective commitment to eradicating the disease.
Commenting on the initiative, Special Secretary of Health and EOC Coordinator, Abdul Basit, stated, “Our aim is not only to vaccinate children but also to empower communities to actively participate in the fight against polio. By combining immunization services with engaging activities, we hope to create a lasting impact in our efforts to eradicate polio.”
