SRINAGAR: In the picturesque city of Srinagar, a striking message has emerged on the streets through a series of posters that call upon the G20 leaders to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

These posters, displayed by various pro-freedom organizations such as the Resistance Youth Forum J&K, Jammu and Kashmir Political Resistance Movement, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Movement, Jammu Kashmir Youth Movement, Jammu and Kashmir Justice and Peace Initiative, and Nawjawanan-e-Hurriyet Jammu Kashmir, serve as a heartfelt appeal for immediate action.

The heart of their message revolves around the demand to cease what they term as a “slow-motion massacre” of the people in IIOJK and to resolve the longstanding Kashmir dispute in accordance with United Nations resolutions. This call comes in the wake of escalating tensions in the region and a continued disregard for the rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The posters highlight the fact that the United Nations Security Council, in a historic resolution passed on January 5, 1949, recognized the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. They call upon the G20 leaders to acknowledge the violation of this right and the deteriorating situation on the ground.

One of the central messages conveyed by the posters is the suspicion surrounding India’s motives in hosting the G20 summit in IIOJK. The posters suggest that India may be using this international platform to divert attention from its alleged anti-Kashmir agendas and the call for the implementation of UN resolutions by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The posters emphasize the importance of holding India accountable for its actions in IIOJK. They call upon the international community to honour the commitments made 74 years ago and to recognize the Right to Self-Determination Day as a reminder that the Kashmir dispute cannot be neglected any longer. It is a matter that requires the global community’s attention and action in line with UN resolutions and the desires of the Kashmiri people.

The posters bear powerful statements such as “Play a role in the release of all Kashmiri political detainees,” “India is using this international forum to legalize its brutal repression in Indian occupied Kashmir and peddle falsehoods of normalcy,” and “Jammu and Kashmir has been under Indian military and police siege since August 2019.” These statements underscore the urgency of the situation in IIOJK and the need for immediate intervention.

Furthermore, the posters call upon the G20 leaders to address the issue of demographic changes taking place in Jammu and Kashmir and urge India to withdraw all its forces from the region while repealing draconian laws and ceasing human rights violations.
