DUABI: Rovman Powell has been appointed as skipper to lead the West Indies team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The squad, consisting of 15 members, has been unveiled for the tournament, set to be co-hosted by Caribbean nations and the USA.

Among the notable selections is Shamar Joseph, who showcased his prowess during his Test debut series against Australia earlier this year and now gears up for his T20I debut in the World Cup squad. Making a return to the team is Shimron Hetmyer, who missed the T20I series against Australia but has been in impressive form in the ongoing IPL with the Rajasthan Royals.

However, Kyle Mayers has been excluded from the squad despite his presence in the Australia series, as the team management preferred a lower-order batter over an opener. Additionally, the omission of pacer Oshane Thomas has also been noted.

In terms of batting, the top-order positions are likely to be filled by Johnson Charles, Brandon King, and Shai Hope, while the team boasts a formidable lineup of big hitters and all-rounders, including Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Shimron Hetmyer, Powell, Jason Holder, Sherfane Rutherford, and Romario Shepherd, offering versatility and depth.

Akeal Hossain and Gudakesh Motie are entrusted with the spin-bowling duties, while the pace attack will be spearheaded by vice-captain Joseph, supported by [additional Joseph].
