ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday announced that he will not be vying for the prime minister’s position, stating that his party lacks the mandate to form a government at the federal level. Instead, he announced the PPP’s support for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to form government in the center without seeking a role in the federal cabinet. He said that PPP will not take the ministries in the federal government.

Speaking at a press conference following the party’s Central Executive Committee meeting, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized that the PPP’s principled decision is to address the country’s challenges without seeking a role in the federal cabinet. He said, “The Pakistan People’s Party did not get a mandate. I am not a candidate for the prime minister.”

Highlighting the political landscape, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the PTI had declined dialogue with the PPP, leaving the PML-N as the sole party to extend an invitation for government formation. In response, the PPP has opted to support the PML-N on an issue-to-issue basis to ensure political stability and alleviate the prevailing crisis in the country, he added.

“The PML-N had invited us to form a government, but the principled decision of the Pakistan People’s Party is to get the country out of the difficulties without being part of the federal cabinet. The meeting discussed the country’s political situation in detail. Our principled decision is to stand by Pakistan. Our slogan will be Pakistan Khappay,” he said.

PPP Forms Committee for Talks with Political Parties

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari outlined the party’s commitment to engaging with other political entities through a newly formed committee aimed at fostering governance and political stability. He affirmed, “We don’t want to see political chaos in the country. We don’t want perpetual crisis in the country.”

“The country is facing political, terrorist, and climate change challenges. We talked about the public economic agreement. To improve the country, we will support whoever is the candidate for the prime minister on issue-to-issue basis so that political stability returns to the country. In this situation, we have decided to form a committee, which will talk to the political parties about the political situation,” Bilawal said.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari underscored the PPP’s dedication to its manifesto centered on public welfare issues. He stressed the importance of restoring political stability and averting a climate of toxicity in the political sphere.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reiterated the PPP’s stance on steering Pakistan out of its current crisis, asserting the party’s unwavering commitment to the nation’s well-being.
