President for Greater Pak-US Linkages in Education, IT, Agriculture

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Dr Arif Alvi, on Friday, emphasized greater partnership with the United States (US) in the fields of information technology, education, and agriculture and said both sides needed to explore the huge potential.

President Alvi made these remarks in a meeting with a visiting delegation of the State Assembly of  California. The delegation was led by Chris Holden at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

President Alvi said that Pakistan and US enjoyed a broad-based and long-standing relationship, which needed to be further expanded for the benefit of the two countries.

He appreciated signing the Sister-State Resolution between Punjab and California on January 9, 2023. He said Punjab had great potential to attract US investment and businesses that would help amplify the trade between the two countries.

He expressed the hope that the delegation’s visit would further broaden relations between Punjab and California and encourage other Assembly members to visit Pakistan.

President underlines importance of Pak-US cooperation

The president underlined the need to explore opportunities to enhance cooperation between the two countries’ universities and promote more student exchanges.

Highlighting the significance of cooperation in the education sector, President Alvi suggested that the US universities could provide live lectures to Pakistani students. He also highlighted the measures taken for women’s social and economic empowerment.

He apprised the delegation of the efforts of Begum Samina Alvi, who had been playing an important role in raising awareness about breast cancer in Pakistan.

The visiting delegation emphasized the need to increase cooperation in the agriculture sector, including transferring agriculture-related technology. It also called for student and faculty exchange programs to further enhance cooperation in the education sector.

The American delegation also urged the need to make combined efforts to address the challenges of climate change. It also informed that a large diaspora from Punjab in California had been playing a significant role in the transport and agriculture sectors.
