President for Increased Cooperation Among Universities of Islamic World

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has underscored the need for increased cooperation among the universities of Islamic countries to promote research and support cultural and educational institutions.

He urged the universities of the Islamic world to enhance collaboration in water resource management, environment-related issues, science and technology and artificial intelligence to make fast decisions and accelerate the development process.

The president made these remarks while talking to Islamic Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) Director General Dr Salim M. Al Malik, who, along with the members of his delegation, called on Dr Alvi at the President’s House on Wednesday.


Saudi Arabia Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmad Al-Malkiy, Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed and Secretary to the President Waqar Ahmed also attended the meeting.

Earlier, the president conferred the honorary PhD degree of the Quaid-e-Azam University on Dr Salim M Al Malik in recognition of his services for promoting cooperation among Islamic countries in education and research.

The president highlighted the need to focus on cyber security and artificial intelligence in the Islamic World to meet the challenges of the 21st century. He said that the universities needed to develop human resources to speed up the pace of social and economic progress. He also emphasized the need to promote online education, which was cost-effective and accessible to students.

ICESCO has been promoting cooperation and collaboration among the Islamic world in education, science and culture. It is making efforts to build a stronger and more cohesive Islamic community to face the current day’s challenges.
