President Inquires After Health of Imran Khan

LAHORE: President Dr. Arif and the First Lady Begum Samina Arif Alvi Alvi on Saturday inquired about the health of former Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Imran khan at Shaukat Khanum Cancer & Memorial Hospital (SKCMH) in Lahore.

According to a press release, President’s office, Dr. Arif and First Lady Begum Samina Arif Alvi Alvi met Imran Khan and spent three hours with him in the hospital.

President Alvi and First Lady Samina Alvi have expressed their best wishes and prayed for Khan’s speedy recovery. During the visit, Dr. Alvi said that Pakistan was saved from a massive crisis through Allah Almighty’s grace.

The President once again offered his services in his capacity to mediate amongst stakeholders to develop consensus on major contemporary issues pertaining to national security and political context.

During the meetup President and Khan also exchanged views on the country’s current political and economic situation. The President reiterated that all stakeholders should pursue their political objectives and find solutions to issues within the confines of democratic means of discussion, negotiation, consultation, and deliberation.

President Alvi once again condemned the gunfire attack on former premier Khan and called upon the Federal government to take all possible measures to bring the culprits to justice.  President Alvi said that the government should ensure the provision of every citizen’s constitutional fundamental rights, including the right to peaceful assembly, safety of life, liberty and freedom of speech and expression.

Imran Khan Faced Assassination Attempt

It may be recalled that Imran Khan was injured on 3 November 2022 during a failed assassination attempt while he was addressing the participants of the long March near Wazirabad, Punjab.

Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan has been shot in the leg in what his supporters say was an assassination attempt. A gunman opened fire while Mr. Khan, 70, was delivering a speech at a Thursday rally in Wazirabad in Punjab province, wounding him and some of his supporters, officials said.

The police arrested the suspect who allegedly fired shots at the PTI chairman. Police released a confession video of the accused in which the suspect said that he attacked Khan because “he was misleading the public”, adding that he had planned to do since PTI’s long march left Lahore.

Video of of the incident shows that a PTI worker named ‘Ibtsam’ tried to overpower the assailant as he pointed his pistol at the container. Khan was leading a protest march to the capital, Islamabad, demanding immediate general elections.
