SRINAGAR: A protest rally was held in Srinagar, denouncing the Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime’s anti-people policies including what was termed as “Tax Terrorism” in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Kashmir Media Service reported that Congress led the demonstration, condemning the BJP government’s alleged manipulation of the IT department for what they termed as politically driven “Tax Terrorism.”

Congress IIOJK General Secretaries Waseem Ahmad Shalla and Irfan Naqashbandi, alongside DCC Srinagar President Imtiyaz Khan, led the protest, joined by senior leaders and affiliated organizations.

The party accused the BJP of employing coercive measures as a response to anticipated defeat, criticizing targeted actions by the IT department as part of what they perceived as vendetta politics against the opposition, particularly Congress and its allies.

Congress leaders emphasized the BJP’s purported use of various agencies, including the Enforcement Directorate and the IT department, to intimidate opposition parties, attributing such actions to the BJP’s apprehension of electoral setbacks.

During the protest, Congress leaders condemned the BJP for fostering a hostile political atmosphere to cling to power, asserting that tactics such as freezing accounts and imposing hefty taxes would not deter Congress from challenging the BJP’s policies. They attributed the BJP’s actions to an inability to accept Congress’ popularity and the people’s support.
