ISLAMABAD: The dissident members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday changed their lawyer to plead their appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to de-seat them.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial welcomed Advocate Umar Aslam, the new counsel of alleged PTI defectors.

Aslam pleaded that his clients appointed him as their new lawyer last night, to which the Chief Justice responded by giving him time to prepare his arguments.

Chief Justice said that the newly elected members would also be made a party in the case.

The Court adjourned the hearing of the case for an indefinite period.

A three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial is hearing the case against the ECP order.

Defecting from PTI, these members had voted in favour of PML-N Vice President Hamza Shehbaz Sharif in the election for the Punjab Chief Minister held on April 16.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) de-notified the alleged defectors on May 23.

Later, the de-seated MPAs moved the Supreme Court against the ECP ruling.
