RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s former prime minister and founder chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Wednesday approved the nomination of Sheikh Waqas Akram as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the National Assembly.
According to local media reports, the PTI political committee will recommend Waqas Akram’s name for the position of PAC chairman to National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
Following the nomination, PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat has alleged that his attempt to meet with the PTI founder in jail was hindered and thwarted by party colleagues Shibli Faraz and Omar Ayub.
Speaking to the media, Marwat claimed that Shibli Faraz and Omar Ayub, in collaboration with the jail administration, prevented his scheduled meeting with the party’s founder. “The jail superintendent informed me that the PTI’s founder wanted to meet me separately,” Marwat stated.
“However, when I arrived for the meeting today, the jail superintendent did not allow me to meet him,” he continued. “This meeting with the PTI founder was crucial for me.”
Expressing his frustration, Marwat mentioned feeling unfairly treated despite his past contributions to the PTI. “I have been met with complaints from the party’s social media team in return for my services,” he lamented.
He further explained that his inclusion in the PTI’s political committee was facilitated by Barrister Gohar, adding that his brother was removed from the KP cabinet.
“If the PTI founder will ask me to tender my resignation from the National Assembly, I comply without any hesitation,” Marwat said.
