PTI Leader Fawad Chaudhry Arrested for ‘Threatening’ ECP Members

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry was arrested by Islamabad police from Lahore on Wednesday morning after he allegedly hurled threats at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and its members.

The PTI leader was taken into custody after Islamabad’s Kohsar police lodged a case against him over his alleged diatribe.

PTI leader confirms arrest

PTI leader Farrukh Habib on Wednesday morning confirmed the arrest of Fawad Chaudhry stating that the “imported government arrested Fawad Chaudhry and the government has gone berserk”.

According to Farrukh Habib, Chaudhry was taken into custody from his residence in Thokar Niaz Baig, Lahore.

However, the police neither confirmed nor denied the arrest of the PTI leader. It was exactly not clear on what charges Fawad Chaudhry has been taken into custody.

Fawad Chaudhry was arrested hours after he along with dozens of party workers gathered outside PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence, claiming that the government was planning to arrest the former prime minister.

He had said that those who have become part of the caretaker government would be pursued until they were punished. Fawad Chaudhry had said that the people sitting in the government would be chased to their homes and they will not be spared.

In the FIR registered by the Kohsar police, Fawad Chaudhry in his speech outside Imran Khan’s residence in Lahore, he threatened the ECP, its members and their families.
