LAHORE: Amid a major development regarding the rejection of PTI candidates in bulk, the leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is flexing muscles for a counter move as the party filed a joint petition against caretaker governments in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), reported by a private television channel on Saturday.

According to details, about 54 candidates of the party have submitted a joint plea in ECP and made the federal, provincial caretaker governments, 17 DROs and NADRA as party in the matter.

The petition maintained that the caretaker governments were depriving PTI of their constitutional rights as the party’s election candidates were being arrested from the jurisdiction of the Returning Officers’ premises.

ECP Rejections Against PTI

Earlier on Saturday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected the nomination papers of over 380 candidates of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including its founder, Vice President Shah Mehmud, and other leaders from across the country.

It is worth noting here that all these candidates can appeal against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers until January 3, whereas the decisions on these appeals would be made by January 10.

The final list of the candidates would be displayed on January 11, while the candidates would have one last option to withdraw by January 12, if any. The General election will be on February 8, 2024.
