ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has rejected the commission formed to investigate the allegations raised by Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges regarding interference in judicial matters. PTI demands the establishment of an inquiry commission similar to those formed in past scandals, led by serving judges rather than retired ones.

Talking to a private news channel, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Chairman of PTI, emphasized the party’s rejection of the commission, which is set to be headed by former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice (retd) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani. Barrister Gohar argued that retired judges lack the authority and potency equivalent to that of serving judges and called for a commission comprising currently serving judges.

The federal government announced the formation of the inquiry commission in response to a letter written by six IHC judges to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) alleging interference in judicial functions. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced this decision during a federal cabinet meeting on Saturday.

The letter, signed by six senior IHC judges, expressed concerns over alleged interference following the Supreme Court’s recent judgment on the dismissal case of Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui.

In response to these allegations, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to independence. He stated that any executive interference in judicial affairs would not be tolerated, emphasizing the foundational importance of judicial independence in upholding the rule of law and democracy.
