PTI Workers Stage Countrywide Protests Against Attack on Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) workers on Saturday continued their protests for the second consecutive day in several cities across the country against the attack on party head Imran Khan.

According to details, the PTI supporters staged protest demonstrations at two different places in Rawalpindi, i.e., Rawat and Faizabad. At Faizabad, clashes between the protesters and police were also reported. According to reports, police also fired tear gas shells to disperse the protestors.

Meanwhile, the PTI northern Punjab chapter also staged protest demonstration outside the Punjab House in Lahore.

PTI Continued Nationwide Protests for the Second Consecutive Day

Earlier protests were held across the country against the attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Wazirabad.

Following the protest call by PTI leadership, the party workers came out and gathered at different places in the federal capital Islamabad including other cities, and recorded the protest.

Protests in Islamabad

At the junction of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in Faizabad, the Islamabad police used heavy shelling to stop the protesters while the protesters pelted stones at the police. A few protesters were also arrested at Faizabad.

“Protesters gathered at Faizabad with sticks, slingshots, and stones; there may be armed people among these protesters’’ said the spokesperson of Islamabad police.

The Rawalpindi administration was also requested to stop the protesters from illegal actions. As per police, Islamabad Capital Police is identifying the miscreants and will take legal action with the help of Rawalpindi Police. There were also young children among the protesters.

Protests in Karachi: –

In Karachi, Tehreek-e-Insaf workers recorded a protest on Shahrah-e-Faisal Road, where the police tried to stop the workers by putting up barriers. The Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and the police faced off and exchanged harsh words, after which the angry protesters blocked the track of Shahrah-e-Faisal Road for traffic while pushing the police back.

The local leadership of Tehreek-e-Insaf left the nursery to go to the Metro in the form of a rally. The police tried to stop the protestors at the Finance and Trade Center (FTC) site, but the women workers crossed the barriers and reached Ayesha Bawany academy, Bizerta Line.

The police gave a final call to prevent the protesters from entering the sensitive area beyond this point. When the protestors tried to move forward, the police resorted to shelling to stop the protestors.

The protesters were dispersed by shelling and lathi charge. They pelted stones at the police in return, after which the police detained more than two dozen people, including women workers of Tehreek-e-Insaf, and opened Shahrah-e-Faisal Road for traffic.

Protests in Lahore: –

PTI workers came out in different areas of Lahore and blocked the roads by setting tires on fire. Demonstrators protested outside the Governor’s House in Lahore. They also tried jumping over the Governor’s House gate and vandalizing it. Barricades were erected by the police, which the workers kept crossing.

Protests in Peshawar: –

In Peshawar, PTI workers recorded a protest at the Motorway Toll Plaza. Central leaders led protests in other cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Charsadda, Mardan, Karak, Haripur, and Kohat. Ministers and MPs did not participate in Tehreek-e-Insaf’s protest on Peshawar Motorway; MPs of Peshawar were also not seen in these protests, which the activists seemed to complain about.

A group of people gathered today at Faizabad again on the call of Asad Umar.

PTI leaders arrested: –

Cases were registered against 24 PTI leaders in the I-9 police station who protested against the attack on Imran Khan in Islamabad. Among these PTI leaders, Ali Ahmed Awan, Aamir Kayani, Wasif Qayyum, and Chaudhry Shoaib were included. As per the short information report (FIR), the accused damaged government property and attacked the police and FC personnel with sticks and stones. The FIR further stated that 9 FC and five police officers were injured due to stone pelting by the accused while 30 people were arrested.
