ISLAMABAD: The Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab, Irfan Ali, announced on Tuesday the implementation of comprehensive guidelines following strict directives from Chief Minister Punjab to prepare for unprecedented heatwaves and heavy monsoon rains.

In an interview with a private news channel, Ali emphasized the importance of timely precautionary measures in anticipation of heatwaves expected to hit the province during the ongoing month. He highlighted that major cities in Punjab would be particularly vulnerable to the effects of heatwaves.

Ali urged citizens to stay informed about weather changes and take necessary precautions. The PDMA had previously issued a warning regarding severe heatwave conditions expected in upper, central, and south Punjab during the next week.

Furthermore, Ali mentioned that the Punjab Chief Minister had reviewed the pre-flood arrangements expected in June and July by the PDMA Punjab and expressed satisfaction with the preparedness measures. He assured that all possible precautionary measures, especially in low-lying areas, were being adopted, and machinery and staff would be deployed for swift relief and rescue operations in case of urban flooding.

Under the Chief Minister’s directives, all concerned departments in Punjab are set to complete their preparations to tackle the upcoming monsoon rains and potential floods, prioritizing the safety of human lives.
