Qatar’s PM Holds Talks with Palestinian Counterpart, Reaffirms Commitment to Ceasefire Efforts

DOHA: On the sidelines of the Doha Forum 2023, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, met with the Prime Minister of the State of Palestine, Mohammad Shtayyeh.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and other occupied Palestinian territories. They stressed the need to de-escalate tensions and achieve a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.

During the meeting, Qatar’s Prime Minister reiterated the State of Qatar’s commitment, along with its mediation partners, to ongoing efforts aimed at restoring peace and establishing a permanent ceasefire. He expressed concerns about the continued Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip after the cessation of the pause. He said that such actions complicate mediation efforts and worsen the humanitarian crisis in the region.

Qatar Calls for Delivery of Humanitarian Aid to Gaza

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Qatar’s Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of establishing sustainable humanitarian corridors. These corridors are vital to ensuring the uninterrupted flow of aid to the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip. He called for the provision of protection for relief convoys, especially in the northern part of the Strip.

Expressing Qatar’s unwavering stance, the Prime Minister condemned all forms of targeting civilians, particularly women and children. He underscored that the policy of collective punishment is unacceptable under any pretext.
