ISLAMABAD: Renowned Pakistani artist and comedian Ismail Tara has been remembered on his birth anniversary on Thursday.
He was born on November 16, 1949, in Karachi. Actor’s real name was Muhammad Ismail Merchant. He started performing arts in 1964 when he was in his late teens.
He is best known for his humorous show, Fifty-Fifty. Ismail Tara was one of the few actors who revolutionized the comedy scene of Pakistani entertainment industry.
Fifty-Fifty show combined satire, humour and parody at a time when censorship was at its peak in the late 70’s and early ‘80s.
Through Fifty-Fifty, Tara and his fellow artist Majid Jehangir, rose to the prominence. He also acted on stage, films, and a number of tv dramas. He remained active till his death.
The actor had received five Nigar Awards for his performance in films. Ismail Tara died on November 24, 2022 in Karachi because of kidney failure.
