Retired Pakistani Fighter Pilot Honored by Syria for Gallant 1973 Air Battle

ISLAMABAD: In a heartfelt ceremony held at the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic, Air Commodore (retired) Abdus Sattar Alvi, a distinguished former fighter pilot of the Pakistan Air Force, was awarded the Medal of Gallantry by the Syrian government. The esteemed recognition was presented to Alvi in recognition of his exceptional bravery and valiant contributions during the 1973 war against Israel, when he shot down two Israeli fighter planes while serving with the Syrian Air Force.

Speaking on the occasion, Syrian Ambassador, Dr. Ramez Alraeen, expressed deep admiration for Air Commodore Alvi’s remarkable career and his pivotal role in the Syrian conflict. Ambassador Alraeen lauded Alvi’s steadfast dedication to a just cause, his unwavering commitment to duty, and his outstanding display of courage in the face of adversity.

Ambassador Alraeen remarked, “Today, we gather to honor a remarkable individual who has left an indelible mark on both the Pakistan Air Force and the Syrian Air Force. Air Commodore Sattar Alvi’s actions during the 1973 conflict demonstrated extraordinary bravery and sacrifice, embodying the spirit of brotherhood and solidarity between our two nations.”
