Road Accident Kills 14, Injures 31 in Mexico

Mexico City: At least 14 people were killed and 31 others wounded in a road accident in Mexico on Sunday, said the authorities.

The local safety secretariat in a statement said the accident occurred in the state of Mexico when a bus overturned on the Capulin-Chalma highway.

It said according to the latest reports, the bus was traveling with passengers from San Luis de la Paz, the state of Guanajuato.

Medical units have been dispatched to the scene to transport the injured to hospitals.

A source told media that preliminary figures put the death toll at 14, with a further 31 wounded.

Since 2020, road accidents have been on the rise in Mexico. According to the National Statistics Institute, a total of 377,231 claims were recorded in 2022.

On February 24, 10 people were killed in a traffic accident in the north-central state of San Luis Potosi, including four minors.

On Saturday, a truck ran over pedestrians, killing three of them, in the southern state of Oaxaca. The driver is still at large.
