Russia Launches Missile Attack on Kyiv: Officials

KYIV: Russia has launched a missile attack on the Ukrainian capital, early on Thursday, injuring around ten people and damaging residential compounds and industrial facilities, local officials said.

The official added that air defense system has downed all the missiles. The first major assault in recent weeks targeted Kyiv with both cruise and ballistic missiles, Serhiy Popko, the head of its military administration said.

He said that following a break of 44 days, Russians launched another missile assault on country’s capital city. He maintained that all emergency services are functioning on sites. He added that they are making efforts to deal the situation after the attack. Mayor Vitali Klitschko has confirmed that around ten people were wounded across the city.

The air force commander claimed that Ukraine’s air defenses shot down 31 Russian missiles targeting Kyiv.  Popko added that the Russian army used strategic bombers and launched some missiles from its territory, while following complicated maneuvers in neighboring areas, the missiles targeted Ukraine from different sides.

Air alerts also lasted for about three hours. Klitschko added missile wreckages targeted several residential compounds, and industrial sites across the city.

Residents of a multi-story compound in Shevchenkivskyi were evacuated following one of the apartments caught fire. The strike also shattered windows in several houses nearby, and set private vehicles ablaze, Popko further said.
