ISLAMABAD/MOSCOW: Russia has said that it was willing to resume gas and energy supplies to Europe through the Yamal-Europe pipeline.

European Energy Market

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told the news agency that the European market was significant for Russia. He said that as the gas shortage persists across Europe, Russia is ready to resume energy supplies to the west.

He said that Russia can resume energy supplies from the Yamal-Europe pipeline, which is shut down after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Although the Yamal-Europe pipeline typically flows toward the West, it has largely been reversed east and become unusable since December 2021 as Poland chose to use Germany’s storage instead of purchasing gas from Russia.

Sanction on Yamal Europe Pipeline

In May, Poland terminated its agreement with Russia after rejecting Moscow’s demand that Warsaw should pay Russia in Rubles.

Russian supplier Gazprom (GAZP.MM) reacted by cutting off the energy supply and said the company would not be able to export gas via Poland after sanctions imposed by Russia against the Polish section of a firm from the Yamal-Europe pipeline.
