MOSCOW: Russia’s foreign ministry summoned the German ambassador to Moscow on Monday in response to the publication of a wiretap leak revealing a confidential discussion among Germany army personnel regarding Ukraine.

The leak, which occurred on Russian social media, prompted Berlin to accuse Russia of attempting to “destabilize” Germany.

According to reports from Russian news agencies, the German ambassador was summoned to the Russian foreign ministry in connection with the leaked conversation among German officers concerning Crimea.

The leaked recording, lasting 38 minutes, featured discussions on the potential use of German-made Taurus missiles in Ukraine and their potential targets, including a key bridge over the Kerch strait linking the Russian mainland to Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014.

The German defence ministry acknowledged that a conversation within the air force division had been intercepted. Chancellor Olaf Scholz has pledged a thorough investigation into the leaks.
