MOSCOW, Russia: A Russian diplomat emphasized the need for bolstering Russia’s missile arsenal to deter perceived threats from the West, as Moscow finds itself in a state of heightened confrontation with the United States and its allies.
Ambassador-at-Large Grigory Mashkov underscored the urgency of enhancing the country’s defense capabilities, citing the escalating tensions following President Vladimir Putin’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, which triggered the most significant rift in Russia-West relations since the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.
Mashkov’s remarks, conveyed through the state RIA news agency, outlined Russia’s strategy in response to what it perceives as a growing threat from Western powers. He stressed the importance of dissuading potential adversaries from challenging Russia’s strength by increasing the country’s missile arsenal.
