Russian FM Lavrov Meets Sierra Leonean Counterpart

MOSCOW: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently engaged in discussions with his counterpart from Sierra Leone, Timothy Kabba, in Moscow, with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

During the meeting, Kabba extended warm congratulations to Russian President Vladimir Putin on his reelection victory and subsequent inauguration. Expressing optimism about deepening cooperation, Kabba conveyed well wishes for Putin’s continued success and prosperity for the Russian people.

In response, Lavrov acknowledged Sierra Leone as a longstanding and reliable partner for Russia in Africa. He outlined plans to broaden diplomatic engagement by establishing new missions across the African continent, with Freetown identified as a priority location for this year. Lavrov stressed the importance of translating intentions into tangible actions, underscoring ongoing efforts toward this goal.

Highlighting areas of potential collaboration, Lavrov discussed the prospects of cooperation in peaceful nuclear energy. Specifically, conversations revolved around the possibility of constructing a nuclear power plant in Sierra Leone, signaling mutual interest in advancing strategic partnerships beyond traditional diplomatic realms.
