Russian Hackers Targeting German Political Leaders, Google Warns

An alert released by Germany’s cybersecurity agency and researchers working for Google claimed that it had caught the group, which is alleged by Western intelligence authorities to act on behalf of Russia’s spy agency, trying to trick main German political leaders into opening an email masked as an invitation to a March 1st dinner hosted by the Germany’s center-right political party and Christian Democratic Union (CDU).

An alert issued by Germany’s BSI cyber agency and said that state-sponsored cyber spies were attacking political parties in Germany in an effort to build access and exfiltrate data.

However, the alert did not provide more details about the specific targets. The Russian embassy in the US also did not issue any statement over the matter.
