ISLAMABAD: Russian President Vladimir Putin has felicitated Shehbaz Sharif on being elected as Pakistan’s Prime Minister for the second time, local media reported on Tuesday. In a post on social media, the Russian embassy in Pakistan said President Putin “highlighted friendly nature of Moscow-Islamabad ties and wished Shehbaz Sharif every success in his important capacity as head of government”.

Earlier, UN chief, US State Department, President of Turkey, Prime Minister of India and Amir of Qatar have congratulated Shehbaz Sharif on his election as PM of Pakistan.

Earlier, Shehbaz Sharif took oath as the 24th prime minister of Pakistan. Pakistan’s President Arif Alvi administered oath from Shehbaz Sharif. Shehbaz Sharif earlier served as prime minister of a PDM-led government from April 2022 to August 2023 before the national assembly was dissolved to hold general polls in February.
