Sarfraz Bugti Elected Unopposed as Chief Minister of Balochistan

QUETTA: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti has been elected as the Chief Minister of Balochistan unopposed as no other contestant had submitted nomination papers for the slot.

Sarfraz Bugti, who served as former caretaker interior minister, submitted four nomination papers for the position to the Election Commission of Pakistan office. He resigned from the caretaker post and parted ways with Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) before joining the PPP.

Bugti emerged as the sole candidate for the coveted position of Chief Minister, as no other contenders submitted their nomination papers by the deadline of 5 pm. Expressing his gratitude and determination, Sarfraz Bugti addressed journalists upon submitting his nomination papers. He emphasized that his primary focus would be on combating corruption and restoring law and order in Balochistan, acknowledging the magnitude of these challenges.

Sarfaraz Bugti extended his appreciation to the party leadership for their trust and support, pledging to uphold the values and principles of the Pakistan People’s Party in his new role as Chief Minister.

He was elected as a member of the upper house of parliament on a general seat in by-elections held in September 2018. Previously, he served as the home minister of Balochistan in the 2013 Assembly.
