‘Sarson-ka-Saag Served with Makki ki Roti’ in High Demand in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: ‘Sarson-ka-Saag,’ topped with butter and pickle served with Makki ki Roti’ at Jinnah Supermarket, is in great demand this winter and attracts many visitors on chilly nights.

Sarson ka saag is a famous dish of Punjab that is prepared and served during the winter in all Punjabi households and restaurants.

Goal Market at Jinnah Supermarket is a famous street food point for visitors, and a huge rush is witnessed at nighttime daily. People visit the place to satiate their food cravings, and the aroma of Saag cooked in butter attracts visitors from far away.

Huge rush at the food stall

The food is served in the open air, and to kill the cold, fire buckets are also provided and every table. People enjoy their food in a traditional village-like atmosphere. A huge rush could be witnessed at the food stall selling Saag and Makki ki Roti.

Shahid Khalid, a waiter serving and collecting orders for Makai ki Roti and Saag, said, “Saag is popular throughout the winter. Most saag lovers come to our stall for Sunday lunch or dinner. Since some people like our cuisine spicy and others want it gently spiced, we add spices according to the consumer’s preferences.”

“Sarson ka Saag is not an easy food with a blend of the right recipe, as everything needs to be perfect to make it delectable,” said Noor-ul-Ain, a visitor who was enjoying the food.

She said, “I am a working woman and can’t get enough time to prepare this dish at home. Therefore, we come here to enjoy the food in a pleasant atmosphere.”
