Saudi Arabia, GCC Nations, US Begin ‘Eagle Resolve 23’ Military Exercise

RIYADH: The Saudi Armed Forces launched a joint military drill on Sunday with the participation of forces from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations and the United States, Saudi Defense Ministry said on Monday.

The “Eagle Resolve 23” military drill, which was launched at the Air Warfare Center in the Eastern Province, aims to enhance further military cooperation, exchange expertise in the sector of missile air defense, and unite planning and execution of procedures.

The Saudi Press Agency said that the military exercise would consolidate the foundations and principles of coordination for joint action to achieve the required operational integration and compatibility.

The commander of the duty troops in the joint military drill, Brig. General. Uqab bin Awad Al-Mutairi, said the troops taking part in the drill would execute a number of exercises including theoretical and practical. He added that the troops would implement theoretical and practical exercises like air and missile operations with live ammunition, air-to-air refueling operations, defensive counter-air operations, electronic warfare, naval incursions, defense against weapons of mass destruction, and surface-to-naval warfare operations.

He maintained that the drill is being conducted for the first time in Saudi Arabia, where preparatory meetings and lectures for the military exercise started last week. According to Arab News, as many as eight conferences were also organized, 7 of which were in Riyadh and one in Florida in the United States.
