Miami: Jannik Sinner expressed his delight at his remarkable performance in the 2024 season, capturing the Miami Open title on Sunday, marking his third victory of the year. Following commanding victories over Daniil Medvedev and Grigor Dimitrov in the semifinals and final respectively, he elevated his record to 22-1 for the year and ascended to a career-high world number two ranking.

Reflecting on his achievement after defeating Dimitrov 6-3 6-1 in the final, securing his second Masters 1000 title, Sinner remarked, “This is a special moment. You never know if this is the last time or not. So you have to cherish this for one day, and now a new chapter is unfolding with the clay-court season approaching, presenting a completely different challenge. Let’s see how I will perform from now on. But undoubtedly, the hard-court season so far has been incredibly rewarding.”

Sinner’s exceptional form this season, characterized by an enhanced serve and impeccable shot-making, has been evident since his triumph at the Australian Open in January, which is anticipated to be the first of many Grand Slam titles.

Despite experiencing his sole defeat of the year to Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals at Indian Wells, Sinner’s triumph in South Florida has propelled him above his Spanish rival in the rankings as of Monday.

Expressing his gratitude for reaching the number two position, Sinner shared, “Being number two, it’s an amazing feeling. I never thought to come to this point. I come from a very normal family. My dad is still working, as my mom, too. For me sport is one thing and life is different.”

Sinner’s coach Darren Cahill emphasized that while the 22-year-old is relishing every moment, he remains grounded, understanding that tennis is just a part of life. Cahill remarked, “He appreciates every single moment that is happening to him, but he’s also got his feet on the ground knowing it’s just a sport, it’s just a tennis match.”
