Scholars Seek Enhanced People to People Contact between Pakistan, Indonesia

ISLAMABAD: Charge D Affairs of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Islamabad, Yusran Hadromi has said that being to brotherly Muslim countries, Pakistan and Indonesia could benefit greatly through an increased cooperation and people to people contact.

The Indonesian diplomate said this while addressing an event being held in the capital, being organized by the Indonesian Embassy and International Research Council for Religious Affairs (IRCRA).

The event, being organized at National Book Foundation was aimed at sharing insights and reflections by the distinguished Pakistani scholars and intellectuals about the Indonesian model of religious moderation and the vision and progress of Indonesian Muslim organizations like Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah.

Scholars Urged Unity Among Muslim Countries

Addressing the event Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology Dr. Qibla Ayaz appreciated Indonesian Muslims progress in social and economic sphere adding that it is largely due to adaptation of religious moderation and democracy. He also suggested that “Indonesia could be Muslim world’s Geneva, to provide a meaningful platform for the whole Muslim Ummah”.

Religious scholar and Chairman Rahmatul lil Aalamin wa Khatam un Nabbiyeen Authority Khurshid Ahmad Nadeem in his address stressed upon bringing a social revolution according to the teachings of Islam that promote peace, mercy on all creatures and harmony among different religions before Islam can be truly implemented in Pakistan.

Barrister Zafarullah Khan, a renowned author, intellectual and politician expressed that spirit of Islam lies in ensuring justice and equality for all. Reflecting on his meetings with Indonesian religious scholars and leaders of Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah, the two largest Muslim organizations in Indonesia, said that ‘these organizations have focused on social and welfare work combined with promotion of Islam humanistic teachings to preserve the Islamic identity in the country’.

The event was a sharing session by Pakistani Ulamas, Scholars, Activists, and Politicians who have experiences in meeting with their Indonesian counterparts. It was aimed mainly at reaching out broader Pakistani public in promoting Indonesian model of religious moderation and democracy. It was also a part of the Indonesian Embassy’s programs of people-to-people contacts in 2024 that was expected to bring Pakistan and Indonesia closer as the two brotherly Muslim countries.
