SRINAGAR: India’s Republic Day on January 26 has heightened tensions and increased hardships for the oppressed people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian authorities have escalated security measures across the region, with a significant deployment of army, paramilitary, and police personnel.

Two stadiums, designated as the main venues for Republic Day functions in Jammu and Srinagar cities, are surrounded by a robust security apparatus, and similar arrangements have been implemented at district headquarters.

The security forces, including the army, police, and paramilitary units, are conducting extensive checks and frisking operations at entry and exit points of Srinagar and Jammu cities. Pedestrians, commuters, and vehicles are subjected to thorough scrutiny, reflecting a multi-layered security approach. Reports from various parts of the territory indicate heightened vigilance, with surprise vehicle checks and increased scrutiny of individuals.

In addition to the visible security presence, heavy deployment of Indian forces across occupied Kashmir aims to closely monitor the movement of people. Checkpoints have been established on roads and intersections, where commuters and pedestrians undergo thorough frisking, and vehicles are subjected to comprehensive inspections.

The occupation authorities have issued directives mandating the attendance of employees from all government offices and schools at the Indian Republic Day functions. The intensified security measures underscore the delicate situation in the region and the challenges faced by the local population.
