SRINAGAR: As India prepares to celebrate Republic Day on January 26, Indian forces’ personnel have escalated security measures in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Stringent checks, frisking, surveillance, and patrolling have been intensified, particularly in key areas such as the venue for the main Republic Day function in Srinagar and surrounding localities.

Additional personnel, including paramilitary forces, police, and specialized units, have been deployed to fortify strategic locations. Checkpoints at key entry points facilitate thorough inspections, while technological advancements such as CCTV cameras enhance surveillance capabilities. The intelligence network has also been activated to swiftly respond to potential threats.

The deployment of forces includes makeshift bunkers and bulletproof armed vehicles across the region, reflecting a comprehensive effort to monitor the daily lives of Kashmiris. In addition to ground-level measures, forces’ personnel are conducting cordon and search operations (CASOs) in cities, towns, and villages, causing severe harassment to residents.

The intensified security measures raise concerns about potential human rights violations and restrictions on the freedom of movement for Kashmiri civilians. The Republic Day preparations underscore the ongoing militarization of IIOJK and the imposition of security measures that adversely affect the lives of the local population.
