PARIS: France has announced that several foreign nations, including Poland, will be sending troops to assist in bolstering security measures for the upcoming Paris Olympics this summer, a representative of the French defence ministry told AFP.

A representative of the French defense ministry said that these foreign troops would primarily support critical areas, such as dog-handling capabilities, where there is a significant demand.

Speaking to AFP on the condition of anonymity, the representative highlighted that this collaborative effort aligns with past practices. Poland confirmed earlier on Thursday its intention to send troops to aid France in reinforcing security at the Olympics, although specific details were not provided.

The heightened security measures come in response to recent security concerns following an attack on a concert hall in Moscow, which resulted in the loss of at least 143 lives. Consequently, France has escalated its security alert to the highest level in preparation for the Paris Olympics scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11.

According to French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu, a total of 18,000 French troops will be mobilized for the Olympics, with 3,000 troops assigned to aerial surveillance duties.
