The Sindh High Court on Thursday issued a bailable arrest warrant for K-Electric Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Monis Alvi over the electricity breakdown in the city.

The high court had taken notice of the power outages in the city as the power breakdown had also affected the hearing of cases.

In the early hours of Thursday, an ‘accidental fault’ in the national grid’s southern power transmission system left several parts of the country including Karachi without power.

Earlier, the court ordered Sindh Police Additional IG Javed Alam Odhu to comply with the court order and produce the K-Electric CEO within an hour.

During the hearing against K-Electric, the electricity of the Sindh High Court also went off. Furthermore, hearings of cases in the court were also affected by the power outage.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf senior leader Fawad Chaudhry said in a tweet: “Courts must act cautiously. They cannot issue arrest warrants for CEOs, especially when the subject is too technical for their understanding.”

He further said: “The trend started by Iftikhar Chaudhry (former chief justice) is still in vogue and it has hurt Pak (Pakistan) enormously.”
