KARACHI: A Sindh High Court (SHC) bench Monday expressed disappointment over police performance while hearing petitions for the recovery of missing persons.

The blasted the investigation officers over lack of progress in the case and warned punitive action against the investigation officers over failure in tracing the missing persons. Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto of the SHC warned to add the investigation officers in the list of accused involved in the enforced disappearances. “The court will deem the investigation officers among culprits who helped in disappearance of citizens,” the judge warned.

He said the officials were given one-month time. “What have you brought today,” the court posed a question. The officer, however, replied, that the investigation officer has been transferred that he had been handed over inquiry some days back.

The court sought report from the investigation officer and other institutions till December 18 as it also ordered federal and provincial governments to submit fresh reports on the subject. A two-member bench of the Singh High Court is hearing petitions related to recovery of nine persons missing for years.
