KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) took a proactive stance on the issue of missing persons, demanding a progress report from the interior ministry.
The single bench, presided over by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, delved into cases concerning more than 10 individuals who had gone missing. Inquiring about the progress made so far, Justice Phulpoto sought details on the number of Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) established for the recovery of these missing persons.
During the hearing, it was revealed that 16 JITs and PTF sessions had been conducted. Expressing a keen interest in advancing the missing persons cases, the SHC bench ordered a comprehensive progress report from the interior ministry before the upcoming hearing. The court adjourned the proceedings until January 30.
In a previous hearing, Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto had conveyed a stern message, stating that if the police and administration failed to produce substantial results, the prime minister might be summoned.
Emphasizing the need for contemporary investigative methods, the court urged the utilization of modern devices for locating missing persons, highlighting the efficacy of technology in addressing such cases in the present era.
The SHC continues to actively engage in ensuring accountability and expeditious resolutions in the missing persons cases within its jurisdiction.
