ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s former Prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, said on Wednesday that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif is the most suitable candidate for the country’s prime ministerial position.

Addressing a parliamentary meeting in Islamabad, the PML-N supremo expressed hope about the country’s prospects, stating, “Hopefully, within two years, the nation will overcome its challenges. We must remain united during these difficult times.”

Nawaz praised Shehbaz Sharif’s governance during his 16-month tenure, emphasizing, “It’s significant that he has steered the country effectively during this period.”

In a veiled criticism of political rivals, he remarked, “Those responsible for bringing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder into power are culprits.”

“If things had remained in the right direction, the country would have already made its name on the list of G20 countries,” he added.

Discussing former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, Nawaz questioned his whereabouts and credibility following controversial verdicts, insinuating judicial bias.

Regarding the 2014 PTI protests, Nawaz recalled the disruption caused to diplomatic engagements, including a delayed visit by the Chinese president, despite ongoing efforts to combat terrorism.

Meanwhile, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif remarked, “Independent candidates have joined PML-N without any conditions. Fluctuations are a natural part of elections, and our party has also faced setbacks.”

Shehbaz commended PML-N supremo, Nawaz Sharif, stating, “Nawaz Sharif has bravely confronted adversities and refrained from engaging in destructive politics.”

“In the face of injustice, Nawaz Sharif has never labeled anyone as a traitor,” he added.

Shehbaz attributed the introduction of projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Nawaz Sharif’s leadership.
