PARIS: French screen icons Omar Sy and Eva Green, alongside Oscar-nominated Lily Gladstone, will headline the jury at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, set to commence from May 14 to 25.

Led by “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig, the jury’s responsibility includes selecting the recipient of the coveted Palme d’Or from a lineup of 22 films, including the much-anticipated return of Francis Ford Coppola with his epic “Megalopolis” and Ali Abbasi’s biopic “The Apprentice” on Donald Trump.

Sy, renowned for his role in the hit Netflix series “Lupin,” and Green, recognized for her memorable performances in “Casino Royale” and Hollywood blockbusters, bring star power to the jury, alongside Gladstone, acclaimed for her work in Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

The jury’s international composition includes Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda, Italian actor Pierfrancesco Favino, Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona, Lebanese director Nadine Labaki, and Turkish screenwriter Ebru Ceylan. Their diverse backgrounds promise a nuanced perspective in selecting the festival’s top honors.

Late additions to the festival’s lineup include Mohammad Rasoulof’s “The Seed of the Sacred Fig,” Oliver Stone’s documentary “Lula,” and Emma Stone’s collaboration with Yorgos Lanthimos in “Kinds of Kindness.”

In addition, Paolo Sorrentino delivers “Parthenope,” starring Gary Oldman, and Paul Schrader reunites with Richard Gere for “Oh Canada.”

Of particular interest is Coppola’s “Megalopolis,” marking the director’s return to Cannes at 85. With past Palme d’Or wins for “The Conversation” and “Apocalypse Now,” Coppola’s latest offering is poised to captivate audiences and critics alike.

Amidst the glamour and anticipation, Cannes 2024 promises a celebration of cinematic excellence and artistic innovation, with a star-studded jury and an eclectic lineup of films vying for recognition on the world stage.
