KHARTOUM: Sudan’s army has refused to engage in negotiations or consider a ceasefire with the “political wing” of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia group.

According to Lieutenant General Shams al-Din al-Kabbashi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Sudan Armed Forces and member of the Sovereignty Council, this decision will remain until the rebel militia fulfills its commitment outlined in the Jeddah Agreement to vacate citizens’ homes and service institutions.

During his address to community activities in White Nile State, Lt. Gen. Al-Kabbashi emphasized the army’s determination to combat the rebel militia and its allies until all parts of Sudan are liberated. He asserted that military efforts will remain the primary focus until all aspects of the military files are resolved.

Deadlock Between Sudan’s Conflicting Parties

Political researcher Abbas Ali highlighted the complexity of finding solutions in Sudan, attributing it to the ongoing deadlock between conflicting parties and the failure of regional and international initiatives to achieve resolutions. Ali stressed the importance of prioritizing the country’s welfare and the well-being of its citizens amidst the devastating consequences of the conflict.

Since April 2023, Sudan has witnessed military clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in various areas, leading to the displacement of millions and the loss of thousands of lives. United Nations reports indicate Sudan is currently facing the highest rates of asylum and internal displacement globally.
