ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday directed PEMRA and PTA to remove an objectionable video of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati and his wife from social media.

On Saturday, the 75-year-old senator burst into tears during a press conference, saying that his wife had received a video featuring him and her adding that he could not share further details in this regard because the “daughters of my country are listening.” He added that his daughter told him the video was from when Swati and his wife visited Quetta.

Chief Justice SC Umer Ata Bandial said that whatever happened to Swati was terrible and that the court was handling the case carefully and according to the law.

Chief Justice said that the case was being heard in the Supreme Court’s Human Rights Cell – which looks into matters relating to infringements of Fundamental Rights enshrined in Chapter II of the Constitution of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Swati said that there was a possibility that the video removed by the authorities was not the one that was sent to his wife.

Clarifying an earlier statement, he said that he never stayed at Supreme Court’s rest house. Instead, he resided at federal lodges during his stay in Quetta.

The senator said that the objectionable video was sent to his wife and son.

A special 14-member committee of the senate constituted to probe the matter will hold its first meeting on Tuesday.

The notification from the Senate Secretariat said the committee, which includes a single PTI senator, Mohsin Aziz, would present its report within 30 days after its first meeting.

Swati, arrested on October 13 in a case registered against him over a controversial tweet, is now on bail. He has claimed that he was subjected to custodial torture.
