ISLAMABAD: During the second half of the holy month of Ramazan, the price of poultry chicken soared to Rs 445 per kg, while poultry eggs reached Rs 290 per dozen in the open market of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, according to a survey conducted by APP.

The escalating prices have put significant strain on consumers’ purchasing power, with the cost of poultry meat reaching Rs 650 to 660 per kg. This surge marks a 30% increase in poultry prices over the past month, exacerbating market volatility.

The former Chairman of the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA), Dr. Sajjad Arshad, attributed the price hike to demand-supply dynamics during Ramazan. He highlighted the rising costs of poultry business inputs and operational expenses nationwide, citing expensive imported poultry feed ingredients like soybean, the scarcity of which has further exacerbated the situation.

Dr. Arshad noted that the economic conditions of the country play a significant role in poultry pricing, with challenges such as delayed soybean shipments at Karachi port amplifying the pressure on poultry prices.

The Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) has called for further increases in chicken prices, reflecting the ongoing challenges faced by the poultry industry. As consumers grapple with the financial burden of rising poultry prices, the market outlook remains uncertain amid persistent economic constraints.
