Sweden Extradites Banned PKK’s member to Turkiye

ISTANBUL: The Government of Sweden has extradited a convicted member of the banned PKK to Turkiye, media reported on Saturday. Official media said that the government of Turkiye pressed Sweden for more measures in return for its NATO seat.

Turkiye: Wanted man taken by police

Media reports said that Mahmut Tat, a member of PKK was awarded more than six years in jail in Turkiye, but they fled. Turkish official news agencies reported that Mahmut Tat arrived in Istanbul on Friday and was taken by Turkish police following his arrival.

A private TV channel said that he was produced before the court.

Turkiye wants Sweden to take action in exchange for NATO seat

Swedish sought to join NATO in May, following Russian troops attacking Ukraine. The decision needs a consensus within the US-led alliance, but only Hungary and Turkiye are yet to endorse its membership.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu also held talks with his Swedish counterpart over the matter. Turkey said that it expects Sweden will take action over issues like extradition and freezing of terror assets in its country.
